Trump Says U.S. and Iran Will Continue Talks Despite Ceasefire Collapse

The United States and Iran could be heading back to the negotiating table despite renewed tensions that have brought an earlier ceasefire to an end. U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington has agreed to continue discussions with Iran after Tehran requested additional talks, even though he declared the previous ceasefire agreement “over.”

Trump's remarks come after several days of heightened military activity across the Middle East. Commercial tankers operating near the Strait of Hormuz were attacked earlier this week, prompting U.S. strikes against Iranian targets. Iran later responded with attacks targeting U.S. military facilities in Gulf countries, further escalating regional tensions.

Despite the renewed fighting, Trump indicated that diplomatic channels remain open. According to the U.S. president, Iran requested that negotiations continue, and Washington agreed to resume discussions.

However, he stressed that the ceasefire reached last month should no longer be considered active, signaling that future negotiations could take place under far more difficult conditions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of the dispute. The waterway is one of the world's most important oil shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global crude exports. 

Any disruption in the region immediately affects international energy markets, shipping costs, and fuel prices worldwide. Although shipping traffic has continued, recent attacks have increased insurance costs and security concerns for commercial vessels.

Diplomatic efforts are also continuing behind the scenes. Regional mediators, including officials from Qatar, are reportedly working with both Washington and Tehran to reduce tensions and prevent another major military escalation. Analysts say keeping communication open is essential as both countries seek to avoid a wider regional conflict.

The latest developments come during a period of heightened uncertainty across the Middle East. Military activity, energy security, and nuclear negotiations remain closely linked, with governments and financial markets watching every new statement from Washington and Tehran.

While no breakthrough has yet been announced, the agreement to continue talks suggests that diplomacy has not completely collapsed.
